Island Floors Captures Over The Bridge Adult Softball Title Monday, September 8, 2014 9:24 am Featuring new commissioners and a new league name, the Coronado Adult Softball League has morphed into The Over the Bridge Adult Softball League this season. The new Commissioners R.D. Johnson and his wife Darlene Johnson have taken the administrative reins from former and now retired Commissioner Greg Johnson, who almost single-handedly kept the league alive for 37 years as commissioner, manager and pitcher for his Down and Dirty team. In the upstart days of the league, the games were played with wooden bats at Sunset Park. The Coronado Racetrack Monday, September 1, 2014 9:08 am I am sure that all Coronado citizens have noted the speed sign on the Coronado-SD bridge that reads 50 MPH. However, the normal speed for about 70% of the cars is 65 to 90 MPH. At those high speeds, and if hit from behind, there is a very good possibility that your car could be flying over the rail and with a 200 feet crash into the Bay, or be completely mashed like an accordion. There are no Highway Patrol stationed at the ends of the bridge, but isnt there a CAHP office in a building at the Coronado end of the bridge? Neither cares about the high speeds. It is unfathomable that the Coronado City government has done nothing about this unauthorized race track. Who in Coronado will be the sponsor of the family member to be killed on the bridge because of totally unnecessary speeds, and absolutely nothing being done to slow these speeds? Does your wife, husband, daughters, sons, granddaughters, or grandsons use the bridge? If so, keep your fingers crossed! The PawSox nevertheless started with a bang, scoring a run each in the top of the second and third frames. In the former, Ryan Lavarnway ripped a one-out double to center, then scored on Corey Brown's two-out ground hit to right. An inning later, Deven Marrero opened it with a single to right, took third on Justin Henry's hit-and-run stroke to the same field and scored after Ivan DeJesus bounced into a 6-4-3 twin killing. The Bulls, however, answered with a trio in the back half off of southpaw starter Henry Owens to gain a 3-2 advantage. Justin Christian started the flurry with a two-bagger to center, then moved to third after Cole Figueroa reached on a fielder's choice. With one down, Jeremy Moore plated Christian with a hit to right, and Tim Beckham's double to deep center scored Figeuroa and Moore. Durham notched an insurance run in the sixth off of reliever Noe Ramirez; that came courtesy of Nick Franklin's first homer of the series well over the fight-field wall. Pawtucket did threaten in the top of the seventh off of reliever C.J. Riefenhauser when Corey Brown drew a two-out walk and Blake Swihart moved him to second with a single to left, but Marrero grounded to third to end the would-be rally.
